Celebrate World Baking Day!
Well, there truly is a day for everything! And why not? We are all for making events out of the everyday and yesterday was World Baking Day. Created by World Baking Day (convenient!) who selected a day to share the joy of baking with the world.
Make it an event – grab your apron, ingredients, baking mat (covered with parchment or silpat to protect those scrumptious cookies from sticking!), and get baking! Below is one of our current favourite recipes for you to give a try if you are stumped for ideas of what to make. We like to use whole wheat flour because, you know, then they’re healthy.
2/3 cup whole wheat flour
1 ½ cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 tsp baking soda
6 tablespoons butter (we use salted and don’t add salt; cue the true baker’s gasp!)
¾ cup dark brown sugar
1 very liberal tsp vanilla extract
1 egg, lightly beaten
Any add-ins you like: chocolate chips, cranberries, raisins, coconut, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination!
Combine butter and sugar first then add in the vanilla and egg, followed by the flour, rolled oats, and baking soda, and finally your add-ins. Bake about 12 minutes at 350. Let cool and enjoy world baking day!!
